A new historical maximum of electric power consumption has been established in the energy system of the Republic of Tatarstan

According to operational data of “SO UES” JSC, the value of the historical maximum consumption of electric power was five times exceeded in the energy system of the Republic of Tatarstan within 2 days.

On January 9, 2023, at an average daily outdoor temperature of -30.1°C, three new values ​of the historical maximum consumption of electric power during the day were established in the power system of the Republic of Tatarstan, which is part of the UES of the Middle Volga. At 10:00 a.m., the maximum was 4,874 MW, at 4:00 p.m.—4,883 MW, and at 5:00 p.m.—4,896 MW, which exceeds the value recorded on December 6, 2022 at an average daily outdoor temperature of -15.6°C, by 1.1% or 53 MW, 1.3% or 62 MW, and 1.5% or 75 MW respectively.

On January 10, 2023, at an average daily outdoor temperature of -26.1°C, two new values of the historical maximum consumption of electric power during the day were established in the energy system of the Republic of Tatarstan. At 4:00 p.m., the maximum was 4,916 MW, and at 5:00 p.m.—4,947 MW, which exceeds the value recorded on December 9, 2023 at an average daily outdoor temperature of -30.1°C, by 0.4% or 20 MW, and 1.0% or 51 MW respectively.

The main reason is the temperature influence: the average daily ambient air temperature is much lower than the norm. “Under the conditions of a high level of power consumption, the energy system of the Republic of Tatarstan functioned stably,” said Andrey Bolshakov, director of the RDO of Tatarstan. In preparation for the winter load maximums of 2023, the specialists of the Transmission System Operator calculated the forecasted value of the maximum power consumption in the energy system of the Republic of Tatarstan for the least favorable temperature conditions. In accordance with the forecast, at the commands of the Transmission System Operator, a reserve of generating equipment was prepared in advance in the amount necessary for the stable receipt of winter load maximums.
